We recently installed a gate at the bottom of the stairs in our basement to ensure that we did not have to constantly chase Avery as she moved in that direction.

All well and good when you remember to actually close the gate…

The other morning I came downstairs and sat down with Colleen and Avery. We were playing together when Avery wandered over to the side of the room with the stairs (sort of around a corner and just out of sight). We did not hear much, but we assumed she was playing quietly with her toys. About 2 minutes elapsed when Colleen and I looked at each other and asked “did you close the gate?” We were over to the stairs in two seconds flat. There was Avery smiling at us from upstairs as proud of herself as a baby can be.

It is GREAT when those moments turn out so well. That sheer panic, “Oh my God what have we done? You did it! No, it was you!” to “Oh wow, look what our baby did!!! Isn’t she incredible!!!”

That’s a big phew!
