Colleen, Avery and I were invited by friends to the Kansas Motor Speedway on Saturday for a giant easter egg hunt. I had my doubts about this whole thing, and no, they did not stem from the fact that I am jewish and would have preferred a giant search for the afikomen. No, it had to do spefically that there would probably be thousands of kids trampling my daughter.

We went anyway and you know what? It was kind of fun. The hunting sections were separated by age group, so Avery was in with all the one and unders – you know how violent that group can get [insert sarcasm here]. Well, since Avery was more interested in the two eggs she found, I was running around grabbing eggs for her. Some people called me the “egg hog”, but isn’t getting the most eggs the point of the hunt? Also, Avery needed a basket full for photo opportunities.

Throughout the whole hunt, only Avery and Meredith (Gilbert) were content with sitting on the grass, so we let Avery be. She just did her thing – looking at eggs, eating the eggs, banging them together. At one point, a photographer came by and spent nearly 10 minutes taking pictures of Avery and Meredith, and then eventually just Avery alone. Of course it turns out the photographer was from the Kansas City Star and was taking photos for this article. The only problem? The online article is missing an important component… As you can see below, I am no longer the only one in the family to make the newspaper – and gosh, my photo was never that big!
