Shut the doors, batten the hatches, this one has blown our socks off.
Avery has had an infatuation with standing for the past few weeks now, but lately it has become more and more focused. She now has a determination to stand, climb, pull, etc. on anything in her path – it does not really matter to her. If she can just be on her feet she is happy.
This morning when I went into her room to get her when she woke up, she was sitting calmly in her bed playing with Lola (her stuffed cow). Now, Avery has also been sitting up on her own for about 2 weeks now, so this was not a big surprise for me. It was, however, the first time we had seen her sitting in her bed when we have gone to get her. Usually she is lying down while playing. So, of course I had to get Colleen in the room to see it.
As Colleen entered the room, Avery got a huge smile and squealed. She then proceeded to very deliberately put Lola down next to her, reach out for the side of the crib, first with her left hand, then with her right, and pull herself to a standing position. This was momentous for two reasons. One that it was the first time that she has stably stood up on her own (previously it was always with help), and two, it was the first time she had even tried to stand in her crib, successfully or not.
I swear that this child is poised to skip the actual crawling and move straight to walking, and one can only hope that Colleen and I get in shape fast to keep up with her.
