I am not shy about the fact that I am losing my hair and I certainly do not keep it a secret that in the past I tried medicine to help it regrow. About a year ago, I was told that I could no longer use Finasteride (Propecia) because it was "a banned substance". Um, all I wanted was a little self esteem boost. I was using a drug that regrew my hair, not one to improve my endurance, strength, or oxygen pumping ability.
The United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) said that Finasteride masked drugs that improved the aforementioned items, but if you took one look at me you could tell that this was not the case. They were, in a sense, saying that Propecia was no different that "the clear" given by Victor Conte of BALCO to many elite athletes. I am sure what exactly "the clear" is and certainly have never used the stuff, but I am sure it does not regrow hair.
Back to the subject though. It seems that all along, the USADA was just toying with me. It seems that I could have continued to use the hair restoration drug because they do not even follow the rules they set. I guess they have no problem "bending the rules". If caught I could have just gotten off with a warning? The joke is own me for actually following the rules. My question is this: Why ban a drug if you are not going to impose a ban/suspension for using it?
I want to personally congratulate the USADA and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) for being the world’s biggest hypocrites.
