Grandma and Grandpa left Sunday afternoon to head back home to New Jersey, but not after a whole lot of excitement for Miss Avery June. While Colleen and I felt like we were boring the daylights out of Lester and Marsha, we were constantly reminded that they were there just to spend time with Avery.
On Saturday we all went to the Plaza Art Fair and spent an hour or two browsing the booths and artists in attendance. Though it was quite warm, Avery was a trooper and slept the entire time.
Saturday night, Bill and Marsha came to Kansas City to take Lester and Marsha out to dinner, and we believe a good time was had by all. While they were at dinner, Colleen and I took Avery to TouchNet’s Fall Party. Even though Colleen’s chili did not win the chili cook-off we still were able to have a great time. Avery again was great and even awake most of the time, taking in all the scenery and things going on. The highlight of her evening was, quite possibly, when I had my finger bitten by a chicken… I am pretty sure that I saw her smile.
After an eventful Saturday, Sunday was still busy, busy, busy. After a late brunch, we all headed out to Sam’s Club to pick up some diapers. This was our first trip to a Sam’s Club, so we of course took a look around. After the shopping trip we attempted to get lunch at both area Oklahoma Joe’s, but both were closed on Sundays. We decided to settle with Texas Roadhouse and a lunch of their fall-off-the-bone ribs.
Lunch at Texas Roadhouse was a momentous occasion for two reasons: One was that this was the last restaurant Colleen and I ate at before Avery was born (the night before), and two, this was Avery’s first trip to a restaurant for a meal.
All this excitement packed into the weekend was too much fun for Avery, but at 4:40pm on Sunday it came to an end, as she crashed, and has pretty much been asleep ever since.
